-What Is Darbha Grass!
“Darbha grass or Kusha grass is holey grass meant to have Lord Vishnu's power. It is believed that this Kusha grass has immense purifying power to purify anything!
Puranas and Upanishads describe this Kusha grass came in to existence after samundra, the churning of cosmic ocean. When demigods and demons got ready to churn the cosmic ocean of milk, there was no one to support the base of madhara mountain. Lord Vishnu took the form of Tortoise and gave the needed support. During the churning, the hairs of the tortoise came out and washed away to the shore. These hairs turned to kusha grass.
When the amrita the nectar was finally achieved due to improper handling of the nectar, few drops of nectar fell on grass. This further sanctified the grass giving it more healing properties.
In the Bhagavad Gita there is a mention about this Kusha grass is specifically recommended by Krishna as a part of the ideal seat for meditation!
Bg 6.11 To practice yoga, one should go to a secluded place and should lay Kusha grass on the ground
to purify the heart by controlling his mind, senses and activities and fixing the mind on one point.
